Treatment Options
Cancer treatment is a choreographed balance between the treatments being administered and the patient’s ability to tolerate resulting side effects.
As a disease, bladder cancer is viewed as being more complex because, unlike some other cancers, there are multiple aspects of this disease, creating specific points where an individualized treatment processes can and should be considered. It is my job as your urologic oncologist to fully explain these aspects, to foster an understanding of the points where you create your total picture and determine how your treatment can be individualized.
My Take
Treatment decisions are hard to make by yourself. No written information can take the place of speaking directly with your doctor. It’s also important for your team to include family and friends. You’ll need the support; and involving them in the process will allow them to be helpful and put everyone more at ease.
Your treatment plan may include surgical removal, radiation, chemotherapy, hormonal manipulation or a combination of these techniques. Choosing the best treatment for localized bladder cancer is based on all aspects of your total picture.
